How to Boost Your WiFi Signal - from Your Tech Savvy Agent

Having a weak or limited wifi signal can be downright annoying if you are a work from home professional or you wish to use a mobile device in an area of your home with a weak wifi signal and all you want to do is boost your wifi signal for better performance.  Recently the Gulf Home Sales office had to deal with this issue.  When using my iPad or "back up" computer on the back patio, we experienced less than desirable upload and download speeds even though we have a 75/50mb router.

Here are two things we learned that you can use to boost your wifi signal and gain better download speed.

1 - Your wifi signal is carried through your home or office like
a radio signal.  Plaster or concrete walls can obstruct the signal and cause your wifi router's range to be diminished.  One suggestion is to move your router to a more open area that is free of multiple walls and obstructions.  Even shiny surfaces like mirrors can affect your wifi router's effective range.  Many offices will install their wifi routers up high on the walls and closer to the ceiling to avoid the interference that cubicles or hallways may cause.

2 - You can purchase a wifi signal booster at your local office or electronic store.  A wifi booster is a small device that plugs into a wall outlet and syncs with your router and boosts your router's signal and increases the range and strength of your routers wifi signal.  This was our solution to our weak wifi signal.  We purchased a Linksys N300 Wi-Fi Range Extender at Office Depot for around $60 and placed it in the center of the house.  This has increased the Wi-Fi signal on the back patio from 8mb download to 30mb download.  It is simple to setup and use.

That is how you boost your Wi-Fi signal and increase the range of your existing wifi router.  I look forward to sharing more tech tips as your Tech Savvy Agent.  Contact me today if you or someone you know is in need of a real estate professional in western Pasco County Florida.
